And when I say early, I mean 11:00 in the morning early, starting the thirteen hour countdown!
Our preparedness paid off with an excellent spot from which to see the fireworks, and we seemed to just beat the crowds (but only just), being blocked in from all sides very soon after.

We spent the day eating, drinking, getting burnt and having the occassional foray to the toilets - but boy would it be worth it!
Jut before the first lot of fireworks at 9:00, the police had to close off the road behind us (above) using a string of police horses. There was going to be a cruuusshhh.
And then the fireworks started...

'Adulthood' and a year in Australia (with its penchant for fireworks), generally brings with it a blase attitude to fireworks - but this display was something else.
Put it down to the location, the occassion, the company, whatever, but the feelings of joy and sheer happiness at seeing exploding lights in the sky were indescribable.

Or it could have something to do with that glass of champagne that we had just had.
But, as the aussies are fond of saying, 'they went off, man.'
